Connecting with friends in Multiplayer

Hello, My father and I are having problems joining each others created game for multiplayer. The person that created the game can see the other join the game, but to the player trying to join it displays "connecting to host" and after about 15 seconds it times out and says something like "couldn't make connection with host". We both verified our game cache, but are at a loss on why this is happening.

Have you tried to connect through LAN? Can you connect to eachother with the normal CoH game?

We found out what happened. We have Hamachi, a VPN for our voice comm (Ventrilo program). We were troubleshooting and found that Hamachi was the problem. We connect just fine now, but I wonder why Hamachi is an issue now. Must be something with the (New Steam Version). Got any good recommendations for a voice comm app what should work?
