Weapons/Doctrine advisor.

Post by Mech »

Hello.

First off, I really like the mod after playing it, the additions to gameplay and the theme are something I find very interesting, however, I notice that there's some rather strange choices as far as weapons and doctrines go, particularly for the PLA who are using some very odd or outdated equipment. such as the Type 56 rifle which hasn't been used for quite some time with the ability to upgrade to Type 81 which is merely a reserve weapon that's being replaced. Or the Type 67 machine gun which, not counting that it's had modifications has long since been replaced in almost all applications.

Basically, military history and equipment, particularly those of the USA, USSR/Russia and mainly China fascinate me, and while I think the mod is excellent, I think it could use some better weapon and some doctrine design, mainly for the PLA who feel somewhat dated in equipment for a modern combat setting.

I know I come here without a reputation really, but I think that if I'm simply given an opportunity to prove my worth, I can show you that I can be a valued member of the research/advisory team, I do alot of research in my free time just out of interest and have several people that can translate for me, and really, I'd like to put that to use on something I and others can enjoy.

Thank you for any consideration.

Just wanted to update to say I'm still quite interested, but wondering if the lack of response is simply due to the team being busy or If it's felt I'm not needed.

I'm by no means trying to sound rude, would just really like a shot is all.

Sorry mate, somehow this thread slipped under the radar. We do try to reply to everything.

I think it's fair to say the the initial developers of MC compromised to an unnecessary degree for the sake of gameplay. We're actually planning to rework the mod in the future and provide a more interesting and authentic metagame (especially for the PLAGF). This will involve the reshuffling of units, weapons, abilities, etc, as well as some new ones ideally. In fact, the three points you mentioned above have already been addressed and will no longer be the case if this goes ahead.

What are you most knowledgeable about? And who are the translators you referred to?

I tend to be the most knowledgeable about the PLAGF, particularly armored vehicles including obscure ones, and the PLAAF and It's various aircraft. I know a bit less about the PLAN, but still have some knowledge on the subject but have some reference material in my collection of books if I need to find something on a topic. (I've always had a fascination with the PLA, from it's inception to the modern day.)

The translators aren't professional so much as personal friends from various places in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan (be careful not to call the latter Chinese, as they may take offense to it.), I can have you talk to them if you wish.

We do already have a dedicated PLA advisor, but would you be interested in remaining 'on-call' (so to speak)? In case he needs a helping hand or doesn't have the time to spare?

What we need now is not simple model of weapons since tbe biggest problem of PLA faction of old MC is piling weapons together and regardless of how they're used IRL. What we need now is organization and weapon list of exact type of PLA units.

And where are you come from? Mainland China? What you're talking about doesn't seems so friendly, since there seems no non-Mainland Chinese here but a lot of Mainlander.

That sounds like something I would be perfectly up for if needed, very good at the make up of types of units and their armament and ordnance.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend you. I just meant to say I have quite a few friends in Taiwan who will get upset if you call them Chinese, so it was merely a suggestion not to as I always try to be a neutral party on the issue of Taiwan/the RoC (however you prefer to call it.)

I mean the formation and weapon list IRL, not to make it up. What we're doing is to combine authenticity and gameplay together.

With all due respect, I think you misunderstood me. That's actually exactly what I'm advocating for, as the main reason I wanted to apply for this in the first place was because I felt the current PLA forces ingame don't feel like a real Modern PLA force fully should as there's plenty of outdated equipment or equipment certain unit types wouldn't be using for example.

I assure you, we're on the same side here. =)
