Help with installing the Mod

Hi everyone. I have searched through the technical forums and not found a solution to my problem.

I installed the new steam version of the mod last week, and it worked fine the first time I launched it. I launched it using the strange launcher file. Anyway, when I tried to create the shortcut to Relic.exe it would no longer work. I have re-downloaded and installed the mod twice but now all the installer does is give me the option to remove, repair or modify the mod's files. None of these work - usually I get an error box saying something like "Installation ended prematurely because Steam/steamapps/common etc could be accessed" or "There is a problem with the installer package". I clicked on "troubleshoot compatability" for the msi. file and it said something about the installer being incompatible.

It is possible that I'm having the same problem as some other peeps who posted on page 3 of the installing/running the mod forums: "Installer Can't Connect to Network Location"
I really want to play this mod again but am not a computer literate person.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Anyway, when I tried to create the shortcut to Relic.exe it would no longer work.

Nothing has changed from 1.015 version of the mod, shortcuts should still work.

Right click Relic.exe and press copy
Right click where you want the program and choose paste as shortcut
Then right click your new shortcut and press properties
Look for the text box that says target:

what I have is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 228200 -dev -mod ModernCombat

You may have a different location for your install of Steam, but otherwise it should be the same.

Except now the shortcut should probably point to the BAT file in the ModernCombat folder? Not Relic.exe?

That way it runs the updater check first.

well if .bat file doesn't work by double clicking it then something must have gone wrong, and he should test running it directly from the Steam executable.

Hi, none of your replies help me - I can't even install the mod anymore. The installer only lets me remove, repair or modify and none of these work. It usually gives me a text box saying network error or there is a problem with the installer package.

What exactly happens when you try to run it? The mod I mean, not the installer.

PS: Do you have Avast?

I cannot actually run the mod anymore as I uninstalled and then reinstalled...

I read somewhere on here that avast is antivirus but I do not have it.

So your problem now, is that you uninstalled the mod but cannot reinstall it?

Yes, the installer no longer lets me perform a full installation. I can only choose from modify, repair or remove and none of them work.

Have you tried manually removing the mod beforehand? Go to your CoH root folder and delete:

• The ModernCombat folder.
• The ModernCombat .module files.

Then try reinstalling.
