CoH: Modern Combat

Anybody have any idea what this error is:



It started after I loaded Patch 1.017.

Installed the 1.018 hotfix in the CoH Relaunch folder and allowed Windows 8.1 to replace those files, but still no joy. Game still won't launch. Any ideas?

What happens when you try to launch the game? Do you get the error pictured in the OP?

@Kevin: Is that directory correct? It's pretty unusual for you to be lacking a CoH root folder (which Steam creates automatically). For example, my CoH .exe directory is:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes Relaunch/RelicCOH.exe"

I apologize, in my haste, I neglected to include "Company of Heroes Relaunch" in the directory listing. Modern Combat was by far my favorite mod and my frustration levels show when I mis-copy the string. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

That error occurs because the game is being told to read information from a DLL ("dynamic link library") that the game can't find. It can't find it/them because the recent CoH 2.700.2.22 patch blocked our custom DLLs.

1.018 should have fixed this, so I'm guessing that either:

1. You didn't have the prerequisite version (1.016 + 1.017) installed.
2. You extracted the hotfix to the wrong place, possibly an older retail CoH folder and not the Steam CoH folder.
3. You didn't overwrite all existing files.
4. Your download was interrupted, corrupted or otherwise incomplete to begin with.

Assuming you're up to date with v1.017, I'd suggest re-downloading and re-extracting the 1.018 hotfix. Remember to move the included BAT files from your CoH root folder to your ModernCombat folder (nothing to do with DLLs, but it prevents the updater from running).
