I've actually never played Endwar. Is it good?

SOCOM is not a branch, they are a joint unit command with personnel from every service, that acts as a unifier for various special operations forces. I would just read about it, I can't tell you anything you can't read anyways.

The game... no, the book... 8/10. They had to had 3 factions, so alot of the technology the US has today was "changed" and in the endwar videogame world, was given to the EF... European Federation. As in, stealth fighters was developed by the EU... laser mounted planes were always develoepd by the EU, EMP missiles EU, etc. THey had to balance it somehow.

The book is nice

But anyways reason why I asked is just because in that fictional book, the US decided to make another branch of the military. But the branch is not one that anyone joins, isntead it was modelled after the marine expeditionary units, basically SOCOM becomes its own branch. More or less all special operation units are put together in their own military branch but given their numbers force recon, seal, delta rangers, paratroopers and the airforce nighthawks are merged into it. Rangers and force recon being the majority.

Weird weird scenario but it popped in my head when you mention SOCOM could capture entire regions... I dont think they have the numbers for it unless they were a branch etc etc. Anyways, its a nice book if you are looking to burn time I guess.

Ok, gotcha. No, SOCOM isn't another branch in that sense, but believe me they have they capability to take down a country, with support of course. Give Horse Soldiers a read. That will give you an idea of the type of men our SOF are composed of.

Maybe. Dunno if manual activation is technically possible with thrown explosives.

I know this game isn't an rpg, or lore based, but your... "back story" to the Chinese American war was really nice. So if you do put other factions, it would be nice if you work a nice little backstory as to why they got involved in the end.

Thanks. But if foreign forces make their way into MC I doubt it will be as fully-fledged factions. We have some ideas in the works, but no promises...

This. Our team is actually very small compared to other mod teams, we have a core of about 6-7 people max. Only 5 have reported into the new forums so far.

Who? Not being antagonistic, just wondering who you meant.

spartasmaximus wrote:However now that I think about it... the navy is not that much of an issue from the lore the US has achieved naval dominance and air supremacy... although the latter I believe to be debatable otherwise how would 4 million troops move without getting blown to pieces.

Air superiority, not supremacy. Big difference. ;)

So what would you call it?

A Special Operations doctrine for infantry based game play? ;)

You guys need a technical adviser? 8-)

Iran, North Korea, Syria, even Russia under the right circumstances would probably side against us. Plus there's always the situation we had in Iraq, where sovereign nations aren't necessarily opposing us, but their populations are still flocking in to fight against us. You could even make up something crazy and have some of our allies fight against us for whatever reason.

I_am_a_Spoon wrote:So what would you call it?

I don't know the official nomenclature for it, but we always called it a CLS (Combat Lifesaver) Bag. I doubt that's what they call it, but we did it enough that our Doc did as well. Might just be called a SARC Bag. I'm nitpicking man. It's not that big of a deal, and I honestly don't know what the hell that bad is called now, haha.

1st. Well not meaning with with the thrown. You know in vanilla the engies could set up theirs explosives and you get the little detonator icon. That is what I am saying. Not implying to remove the thrown charges though.

2- no I don't judge on that, full faction or reward that is up to you... just syaing it'd be nice to have a coherent story to back them up besides 'god wills it' :P

3-... and I feel like an idiot for overlooking that one :P

I don't know if this has already been suggested or not, but I think it would be a good addition to the US Army/Marines to grant access to the M113 APCs as an fast, more armored transport(than the Stryker) and reinforce point for infantry, but also to add some more diversity to the mod and grant more options to the player.
Or perhaps make the Mortar carrier a variant upgrade of the default layout, and then have it start out as an transport/reinforce point. Anyhow I think you should consider adding more options nonetheless.

The role of M113 and Stryker would be duplicate. Maybe use it as an alternative unit would be better.

I agree with some of the other participants here we should definitely be able to requisition more main battle tanks, 1 Abrams or whatever the Chinese got as equivalent just doesn't seem enough.

I don't really see why we couldn't make the Abrams and ZTZ99 call-ins unlimited (rather than just one per player). Like it currently works in hardcore.
