Then wht not use missile and RPG to deal with everything?
Penetration of HEAT is poor against modern composite armor, and this is why M551, M60A2, MBT70 and their Shillelagh weren't used anymore.

Yep. I know that, HEAT is just good against normal armor (and preferably, not sloped) since there's no multiple layers to get through.

no my brother... you can not use a sabot against light armored vehicles (ICP or IFV) because if you use this munition against them, well... the shoot only through the vehicle from one side to other side... it is like kill a fly using a shotgun...

The "Heat" is special munition for IFV and IPC because this munition impact in the objetive, make a little hole in the vehicle armor and burn everything inside them...

I've seen light armor being destroyed by APFSDS. The shot hit the front armor of the vehicle, messed up the driver's chamber, destroyed radio and other equipments inside the vehicle, and then messed up the engine on the rear.
Vehicle is not ship, penetration of the vehicle means destroy.

ofcourse you can damage a IFV or APC using a sabot munition but I bet you anything that vehicle do not exploded and some crew and passenger get out alive...

that does not happen with the "Heat" munition, the heat penetrate the vehicle and burn everything inside, causing the APC or IFV munition, grenades, fuel and other explosive inside exploit....

is like I said before: use a sabot to destroy a IFV or IPC is like kill a fly with a shot gun...

HEAT pierce armor by high speed of metal stream, not high temperatue. In fact, the temperature of the metal stream is only about 500 centigrade.
And, APFSDS smashes vehicle with its high kinetic energy, not only pressure. It would also cause detonition of fuel and ammo.

So in summary:

APFSDS = fucks you up.
HEAT = fucks you up slightly more, unless you're (a) kilometres away or (b) a tank.

That about right? ;)

Almost, but HEAT won't screw you up more than APFSDS.
APFSDS = smash an egg with a hammer
HEAT = bore hole on an egg with a drill
For the effect on light armor/vehicle of APFSDS, imagime a 12.7mm bullet hit the human body - it won't simply left a hole of 12.7mm on the back, but take away half of bone and flesh away from your body and simply split you up.

Is it comparable to the difference between armour-piercing (APFSDS) and hollow-point (HEAT) bullets?

The former over-penetrates soft targets, failing to transfer its full kinetic energy, whilst the latter is ineffective against armour but imparts all its energy into and does more damage to soft targets?

HEAT stands for High-Explosive (or High Energy, whichever) Anti-Tank. It's pretty much a shaped-charge inside a tank shell. It tends to have a lower penetration other shells, but the thing is, it KEEPS it's penetrative and explosive properties over distance. It's effective against solid steel armor. I think a Chinese tank with an 85mm main gun had a HEAT shell that penetrated 800mm (yes, eight hundred) of steel. Good lord. And if it penetrates, it also showers the crew inside with molten copper. :P And with that high-explosive part, it can also take care of squishy targets like infantry and jeeps easily.

ATFSDS, SABOT, etc. is pretty much solely anti-tank. It's a super-fast shell made of a REALLY hard metal, so it pretty much penetrates anything with brute force. Something that weighs a lot and has high speed, according to Newton, won't stop very easily. And any armor, including chobham armor (the ceramic armor that modern tanks use), have a hard time stopping that.

There's no 85mm tank gun in PLA service since 1980s(PLA has even more T55/Type 59s than USSR, and those upgraded T59s have even superior firepower against T72A and T72B. Chinese guns are more like a hybird of USSR guns and NATO guns). The Type 86 IFV (Chinese version of BMP-1, the second common used IFV of PLA) uses 76mm low-pressure smoothbore gun, but it's not a tank. ;)
